Summary/Abstract: A recent report by the World Economic Forum on Global Gender Gap finds that the possibility of achieving gender equality is not in the offing. In Nigeria, discussions on gender inequality have gained more prominence in the last two decades, attracting the interest of poli- cy makers, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), development experts as well as academics. This study was an attempt to evaluate the perception of gender by married men and women. Specifically, it focused on young married men and women between the ages of 25–40, residing in Maryland, Lagos state. The study adopts the primary research method through close ended questionnaires. Findings from the study reveal that majority of the respondents support traditio- nal concept of gender. However, there is a decline in gender stereotype with respect to gender roles between husbands and wives. The study recommends that Non-Governmental Organiza- tions (NGOs) should adopt a more comprehensive approach of advocacy that will influence the orientation of the citizens on the benefits of achieving gender equality.
