Summary/Abstract: From a perspective of moral philosophy this study deals with some principal connections between violence, speech and common good as they can be examined in two selected texts of Robert Spaemann. Applied and also partially compared with the position of Spaemann are selected observations of other authors, especially Josef M. Bocheński, Hannah Arendt and Slavoj Žižek. The following questions are in focus: Can violence be morally justified? Are the common good and violence compatible? Is the common good possible without freedom of speech? Is reasonable speech a form of violence? The study shows how Robert Spaemann answers these questions. The important point is an exploration of the key differences between an individualistic, collectivistic and realistic concept of common good, including their ontological assumptions.
