Summary/Abstract: Are the monstrous images that Nothomb creates to integrate his obese characters means to make people laugh? This is the first question we ask ourselves and we are going to answer it by analyzing the obese bodies of Melvin Mapple from A Form of Life and Palamedes and Bernadette from Catilinaires; three characters perceived as disturbing the ideal of body image in the Nothombian universe: thinness. This article proposes to make an analysis of the grotesque of the obese character of Nothombian and we will differentiate the male obese from the female obese.
