Summary/Abstract: In the second half of the XIX century, in the village of Arbo there lived Durmishkhan Zhuruli, whose daughter Nino was married to a famous military figure – General Ilia Makarashvili, the son of Sakvarela. The Makarashvili lived in one of the historical villages of Racha – Lari. The father of Ilia Makarashvili, Sakvarela Makarashvili, the son of Davit, was mentioned in the 1843-year list of confessors at the Church of the Archangel. Ilia Makarashvili received military education at Vladimir-Kiev Gymnasium, later he studied at Pavlovsk Military School. He participated in the Russo-Turkish War in 1877 – 1878. He was the Staff Captain of the 39th artillery brigade. On December 23, 1878 he was awarded the Order of the Saint George, 4th class for the courage, shown in the battle against Turkey (Deveboynu) on October 23, 1877. From 1895 Ilia Makarashvili was the Head of 1st Battery of Grenadier Artillery Brigade, and from the 1897 he was the Commander of the 1st Battery of the Caucasus Grenadier Artillery Brigade. In 1898 the future General became the Head of 1st Division of Caucasus Reserve Artillery Brigade. In 1902 he was the Head of the 7th Mortar Regiment. In 1904 Ilia Makarashvili was the Commander of 67th Artillery Brigade, from July 1904 he was Commander of the 2nd Turkestan, later the Commander of the 52nd Artillery Brigade. Ilia Makarashvili, the son of Sakvarela, was awarded the rank of a Captain in 1882, in 1895 he was awarded the rank of a Lieutenant Colonel, in 1898 – a Colonel, in 1906 – Major – General, and on October 15, 1910 his military career ended as Lieutenant General. Ilia Makarashvili, the son of Sakvarela, married Nino Zhuruli, the daughter of Durmishkhan. Makarashvili settled in the village of Arbo. Ilia Makarashvili and Nino Zhuruli had six children: the elder Giorgi, then Barbara, Nikoloz, Marika, Irine and Mikheili. The three of them – Giorgi, Barbara and Marika died of some disease. One of the sons of Ilia Makarashvili - Nikolozi (Nikusha) chose the military career and became second lieutenant of the Mountain Cavalry Battery. Though his life ended prematurely. The Bolsheviks cruelly treated General Ilia Makarashvili`s wife, Nino Zhuruli. First, they deprived them of the property, and then expelled them from the village. She passed away in 1948. In 1922, Ilia Makarashvili`s youngest son, Mikheili, left for Europe to pursue his studies. Finally, he settled in France. His son, Giorgi, moved to Peru, South America, and settled in the city of Lima. He married a Peruvian lady, Carmen, and they had six children. Mikheil Makarashvili`s granddaughters, Innes`s daughters, Isabel and Natali live in France. Ilia Makarashvili daughter, Irina stayed to live in their parents` house in the village of Arbo. According to her will, after her death the Makarashvili house and their property in the village of Arbo were inherited by Ilia Makarashvili brother`s grandson, Merab Makarashvili. The descendant of Merab Makarashvili, Amberki Makarashvili was the grandson of Sakvarela Makarashvili.
