Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the issue of cross-cultural code-switching in the context of ethnic culture. This process can be interpreted as a purposeful switching of a representative of one culture to any culturally established traditions, norms of behavior of another culture, in order to adapt various cultural norms for the corresponding behavior. The coexistence of two different cultures would be impossible without this phenomenon. In multi-ethnic Georgia, acculturation processes have been going on for centuries in the direction of integration, which means the preservation of cultural identity by the ethnic group on the one hand and involvement in a foreign culture, on the other. The principle of switching cultural codes plays an important role in these processes, which leads to the development of a security strategy. In a multicultural society, the switching of ethnic codes can be observed both at the individual and group levels. Mainly at the initiative of ethnic minorities, code-switching is frequent in the social and religious spheres (baptism, a joint religious celebration of Christians and Muslims). The important role of code-switching in the process of integration In the multicultural regions of Georgia is obvious: interpersonal and intergroup contacts and the number of mixed marriages are increasing, cases of intergroup clashes and conflicts are decreasing, different ethnic groups participate in each other’s religious rites, the number of joint events is increasing.
