Summary/Abstract: In the secular calendar, the transition from summer to autumn recalls of an ancient New Year, marked by the death and the rebirth of the Mother Goddess, upon which the Christian Church Fathers overlap two holidays: the death (the Assumption, August 15) and the birth of the Virgin Mary (September 8). They are both associated with certain Romanian rural specifi c traditions.
