Summary/Abstract: The history of Polish science still has many gaps. This is the case of Jan Czekanowski and Stanisław Poniatowski. They both studied physical anthropology at the University of Zurich. This article explains the reason for their ethnographic and ethnological research, which they successfully conducted in these disciplines. In addition, the questions of how they got to Switzerland and what prompted the choice of the field of study are answered. The political context of both scholars going to study in Switzerland is taken into account. For the first time in Polish literature on the subject, a complete list of scholars and courses that they studied at the University of Zurich is provided. The list is reconstructed on the basis of sources located in archives and libraries in Zurich.
