Summary/Abstract: Professor Peter Burke of Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge, has been a major influence in shaping cultural history by promoting innovative approaches, expressing a constant desire, or perhaps need, to open history up to neighbouring disciplines, mainly cultural anthropology, sociology and visual studies. This conversation between DTK’s Editor-in-Chief, Veronika Čapská, and Peter Burke was recorded on June 11th 2019 in the welcoming environment of Trinity Hall at the University of Cambridge, where Veronika Čapská held a Visiting Fellowship in 2018–2019. Special thanks are due to DAAD scholar Hanno Balz, who allowed us to conduct the interview in his office. The Covid-19 health crisis and the complications to professional and personal situations that have arisen from it have delayed the publication of this dialogue and turned the process of editing it into a welcome textual and social practice of reconnection at a time when the distance between Prague and Cambridge seemed to be growing ever larger.
