Summary/Abstract: This article explores the application of the principle of subsidiarity in the European Union's (EU) shared competencies, which plays a crucial role in ensuring effective and balanced governance between the central level and lower levels of government. Overall, the article highlights the significance of the subsidiarity principle in the EU's governance structure and its relevance in the field of shared competencies, particularly in environmental matters. The article emphasizes the significance of necessity and efficiency in EU action, where decisions should be made at the appropriate level of governance. It sheds light on the roles of EU institutions and member states in upholding the principle of subsidiarity. By adhering to this principle, the EU strives to strike a delicate balance between centralized authority and the autonomy of its member states.
