Summary/Abstract: The article provides an overview of Slavic studies in the Nordic countries. It presents the organizations of Slavists and the variety of publication series that are issued within the Slavic scientific field. The text describes the reorganization of departments for Slavic languages and highlights advantages and disadvantages in this development that prevails at Swedish universities in the last decade. The importance of the rich collections of manuscripts and early printed books at Swedish libraries and archives for international research is emphasized. The article also focuses on medieval Slavic studies in Sweden and more specifically at the University of Gothenburg. The specific interdisciplinary environment for medieval studies at the University of Gothenburg is further discussed in the article. Even in education, the University of Gothenburg excels with its complete study programs at undergraduate and advanced level in medieval Slavic studies and Old Church Slavonic. Towards the end of the article, book collections and their connection to people who have contributed to Slavic studies at the University of Gothenburg are discussed.
