Summary/Abstract: After exposing some defining characteristics of the reportage, we focus our attention on the one practiced by I. L. Caragiale and on the way in which this protean species, both journalistic and literary, is found in some of his writings. We follow, in the first phase, after a prior classification and datin, the features and the means of elaboration of some reportages written according to all the rules of the genre: ”A. Odobescu”, ”Culisele chestiunii naționale”, ”Drama din strada Alecsandri”, ”O vizită la castelul «Iulia Hasdeu»”, ”O plimbare la Căldărușani”. We notice here the care for the form, the spectacular structure of the text, the interference with other journalistic categories (the interview, for example), but also how the author is questioning the limits of the journalistic discourse. Highlighting the Caragialian stylistic imprint, among other things, we talk, about the tone of evocation, the nuances of irony and satire contained in descriptions and portraits, and the narrative that sometimes takes over the rhythm of the characters’ movements and pulse or about the reporter’s postures. Then, we are interested in the way Caragiale relates to reportage in literature, looking for the occurrences of specific terms, but also the technical and visional approaches in proses like ”Articol de reportaj”, ”Groaznica sinucidere din strada Fidelității”, ”Reportaj”, ”O cronică de Crăciun”, ”Dintr-un catastif vechi” etc. We notice that the reportage becomes a subject of parody or a writing model, and the reporter – a representative character.
