Summary/Abstract: The Russian-Ukrainian war is often treated as a local conflict between two post-Soviet countries on the edge of Eastern Europe. Despite appearances, the Russian invasion can be considered as a confrontation within the once common Orthodox civiliza- tion. Russia’s self-isolation clearly shows that this country is now closing in the circle of the ‘Russian mire’, and Ukraine is moving towards Western civilization. This allows us to talk about a kind of “divorce of civilization”. In this context, on the example of the Polish minority in Eastern Ukraine, the author considers the problem of the so-called fuzzy / hybrid identity of Ukrainian citizens.
