Summary/Abstract: Fr. Andrzej Wyrzykowski is one of the outstanding clergymen of the Sandomierz diocese who ministered there in the first half of the 20th century. Thoroughly educated at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy, he held a number of ecclesiastical positions in Sandomierz, including lecturer at the local seminary, director of the university’s library, and official of the episcopal court. In addition to these activities, the clergyman was involved in charitable organizations (Grocers’ Association, Grocery Cooperative “Społem”, Polish Red Cross) and community associations (including the Polish Land Society, the Air and Gas Defense League and the fire department). At the same time, this priest took part in the political life of Sandomierz, for example, he was a member of the City Council on behalf of the People’s National Union. Detailed issues related to the social and political activities of Fr. Andrew Wyrzykowski have become the subject of this article. The information in it was taken from both church archives (Sandomierz Diocesan Library), as well as state-owned (State Archives in Kielce, Branch in Sandomierz). The article clearly demonstrates that many clergy in the interwar period, in addition to their primary ecclesiastical duties, were also actively involved in other areas of social life. This activity was clearly limited after the communists took power after the end of World War II.
