Perception perspectives of repeating a school year

Summary/Abstract: This article highlights the problem of the phenomenon of repeating a school year. The analysis of literature indicates, according to the selected authors’ opinion, school failures nature is predetermined by their causes, how the process takes place, the result of which may be that a student remains another year in the same form. The scale of this phenomenon in Poland and other European countries is described, considering statistical data for primary school students. The negative effects of second-year failure have been presented in the study, and an attempt is made to show the benefits which may arise from repeating a year. The aim of the article was to draw attention to the fact that the issue should not be perceived in a way that focuses exclusively on the disadvantages and negative consequences of a second-year failure, proving to be very harmful to a student repeating a year. The information presented in this article may contribute to raising general awareness of the problem, so that it is possible to avoid many negative effects, especially social ones, experienced by students remaining in the same grade for another year.
