Summary/Abstract: The mechanisms for the protection of human rights presented in this paper are the available procedures used in prevention of violations of the prohibition of torture and other cruel, inhuman, and degrading forms of treatment or punishment. The aim of the study is to present the legal aspects of the prohibition of torture as specified in the 1984 Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, In-human or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. The author focuses on the functioning, objectives, and activities of the treaty bodies, i.e., The Committee against Torture and the Subcommittee on Preven-tion, as well as the mutual relations between these bodies.
