Summary/Abstract: In Poland, model interpretations of the spatial structure of cities are undervalued in planning instruments. However, the use of these models could become a valuable tool in spatial policy making. A city model presented in the form of an urban structure is the result of interpreting various types of spatial information and data into an accessible language. The aim of the research is to find a graphical representation of the functional-spatial structure of the city and a methodology for the valorisation of urbanised space in terms of the quality of the residential environment. The research was carried out using classical methods of urban planning and architecture. The main conclusion of the research is that a legible city plan can become a useful tool to design a high quality urban environment. The spatial-functional structure model of Rzeszów can serve as an example for other cities in Poland.
