Summary/Abstract: Augustin Buzura's novels are defined by a complex and disturbing epic structure, highlighting the tragic imprint of the Individual-History equation, imposing itself through the demanding appeal to the responsibility of individual or collective memory. The novel Orgolii stands out as the most important novel by Augustin Buzura, a writer for whom the observation of the social context is intertwined with the probing of the abyssal areas of the psyche. The novel Orgolii explores the world of academics, the writer sensing, through the character Ion Cristian, the paradoxical, incongruous relationship of the intellectual with history, a relationship marked by submission, cowardice and compromise, thus continuing the epic formula of the novel Absenții, in which the dominant theme was the alienation of the being, while in Orgolii the theme of revolt and its relationship with truth is revealing. In the novel Orgolii the world of the university students is explored, the writer sensing, through the character Ion Cristian, the paradoxical, incongruous relationship of the intellectual with history, a relationship marked by submission, cowardice and compromise, thus continuing the epic formula of the novel Absenții, in which the dominant theme was the alienation of the being, while in Orgolii revelatorie the theme is revolt and its relationship with truth.
