Summary/Abstract: The year 2022 marks the 400th anniversary of such a unit of the Roman Curia as the Dicastery for the Evangelisation of Peoples. The Dicastery coordinates the Church’s missionary activity throughout the world and it is particularly concerned with the young ecclesial communities that form the particular churches in mission territories. In the course of successive reforms of either the Roman Curia or its individual dicasteries, next popes underlined the importance of this unit in missionary work. This was particularly evident during the pontificates of Paul VI and John Paul II, which resulted in the reorganisation of the structures of the Congregation for Propaganda Fide, as well as the overall reform of the Curia on the basis of the apostolic constitution Pastor Bonus. Also, Pope Francis wishing to adapt the work of the Curia to the present times made some comprehensive changes that also affected the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, henceforth known as the Dicastery for the Evangelization of Peoples.
