Viacheslav Lebedev’s Поэма временных лет (“Primary Chronicle”): a Historiosophic Pattern and its Poetic Representation

Summary/Abstract: The article investigates the symbolism of imagery in Lebedev’s epic poem in conjunction with perception of exile as a stage in unfolding historical process. It discusses Lebedev’s representation of Russian history as a journey understood within the framework of cyclical conception of time. The analysis reveals various poetic strategies that enabled the poet to incorporate medieval Russian historiosophic conceptions as well as the images going back to Vladimir Solovyev into his poetical vision.
