Summary/Abstract: This article consists of four parts dealing with different aspects of the issue of water. First, the author introduces the contemporary concepts and definitions of the term right of access to water. The second part presents how the individual’s right to water became an internationally recognised human right (confirmed by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 64/292). The last two sections are devoted to an analysis of the main efforts of the international community (with particular reference to the United Nations and the European Union) to recognise the right of access to water as a human right.
