Summary/Abstract: Today, the Military Counterintelligence and Security Directorate (MCSD), successor of the traditions of the Second Counterintelligence Office, established on May 1st, 1918, is a modern, flexible structure, capable to manage the risks and threats regarding the military body and to ensure, promptly and efficiently, the intelligence needed by the decision-makers in order to adopt the right course of action. During its 105 years of existence, the military counterintelligence placed itself in the forefront of the fight against the hostile actions taken to undermine the national security in the military field. Military counterintelligence embraces both information gathered and activities conducted to counter foreign intelligence threats, as well as other types of threats against MoD personnel and structures. Counterintelligence professionals are adapting how they detect, deter, and disrupt collection activity because of the challenges in detecting the traditional indicators of collection activity - spotting, assessing and recruiting.
