Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the war-related output of Lucjan Rydel. His poems, icluding Przed krucyfiksem wawelskim, W kaplicy Zygmuntowskiej, O wierzbo polska, Prometeusz, are interpreted in the context of legion poetry written by Henryk Zbierzchowski, Tadeusz Szantroch, Stanisław Stwora, Józef Andrzej Teslar. Rydel’s contribution to Ilustrowany Tygodnik Polski, which was published during the war, was not limited only to those few poems, but also included numerous prose texts, in which the author expressed much stronger views than in his poetry. From the very beginnings of his work in Ilustrowany Tygodnik Polski Rydel presented the images of cities that were connected with current war events, which has been discussed in the paper.
