The Dilemma of György Lukács

Summary/Abstract: Lukács's embracing Bolshevism in late 1918 was an enigma even for his closest friends of the time. It was natural to interpret it as a rationally unmotivated, existential decision. However, it can be explained as a reason-based choice if we recognize that Lukács perceived his situation as that of a moral dilemma, and discover the shift in the description of the dilemma from *Bolshevism as a Moral Problem" to *Tactics and Ethics".
