Summary/Abstract: Huge and unfavorable changes have been taking place for decades in the spatial structure, physiognomy and functioning of the landscape in Poland. At the same time, in recent years, social pressure has been increasing to protect valuable landscapes from devastation (petitions, demonstra- tions of residents, etc.). The few scientific studies on the social perception of landscape reveal a pic- ture of a diversified level (rather low or moderate) of social awareness of the importance of landscape quality for its users’ living conditions. The aim of the article is to assess the quality of the Pomeranian Voivodeship landscapes and the changes taking place within them, as well as the level of awareness of landscape quality importance among the inhabitants of the region. This assessment is based on a questionnaire research on the landscapes’ perception (perception-based approach) and the space valorization among the inhabit- ants of the voivodship carried out in 2021 as part of the landscape audit (resulting from a statutory obligation). Altogether 2.455 inhabitants from all 20 poviats of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, including 100 communes (out of all 123 communes) participated in the study. The results of the study showed a sense of a strong relationship between the inhabitants and the place of their residence, with relatively low social activity for their neighborhoods. In the opinions, attach- ment to one’s own town translates into a relatively high level of satisfaction with the appearance of the place of residence and high interest in investments carried out in its vicinity. At the same time, a large group of respondents negatively assessed the changes taking place in their neighborhoods, expressing a desire to have more influence on the shape of their living space and the appearance of the residential place. The conducted research was the first of its kind in the voivodship.
