Summary/Abstract: Along with other cultural sectors, the library sector in Bulgaria was put to a serious test due to COVID-19. The entire network of public libraries turned out to be closed. The library is both a physical and a virtual place. Physical presence continues to be a strong support for communities. The library remains a space for a wide range of purposes - reading, communication, learning, playing, meetings and more. Physical presence serves the economic development and revitalization of neighborhoods or settlements and strengthens community identity. These are values that, in line with reality and new challenges, remain leading in the future development of libraries in the country. As a result of the arisen situation and the need for social distancing and self-isolation of people, it was resorted to the only publicly available method of communication, namely, the active use of online services and all opportunities provided by the global network for access to information.
