Summary/Abstract: The tragic events that befell Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 onwards prompted many debates and publications, both in France and elsewhere in the West. Faced with the flurry of events, foreign commentators were forced to go into analyses of the conflict without prior familiarisation with basic information constituting its structural background. Admittedly, no detailed study of Bosnia and Herzegovina existed in French, for instance, and the only sources were very general encyclopedia articles.
