Summary/Abstract: Since 2018, using LIDAR laser scanning technology, more than 70 new hillforts have been discovered, which have attracted public attention to their historical, symbolic, and landscape aspects. Implementing the research project New Discoveries of Hillforts in Latvia in 2018–2021: Cultural-Historical Significance, it was concluded that hillforts can become an important cognitive anchor in the process of creating belonging to a place and strengthening cultural identity. The article questions of in which aspects and in which groups of society the hillforts are perceived as a cultural heritage value and what communication, management, and cognitive processes contribute to the preservation and popularization of the hillforts. The data obtained in the course of the research reveal how the newly discovered hillforts fit into the already existing value system as well as allow modeling recommendations for the implementation of certain measures in the fields of education, infrastructure, institutionalization, and communication, which would help position the hillforts more clearly in the public’s perception as a value of national identity.
