IDEOPOLITICAL ACTIVITIES OF THE COMMUNIST LEAGUE OF KOSOVO FOR EXTINGUISHING ALLEGEDLY “HOSTILE ACTIONS” OF ALBANIANS ACCORDING TO A 1983 DOCUMENT

Summary/Abstract: While the demonstrations of 1968 in Kosovo had a positive effect on the rise and all-round development of Albanians in Yugoslavia, especially after the Constitution of 1974, on the other hand, the demonstrations of 1981, starting with the student demonstrations organized during the months of March-April of the same year in Pristina and in other cities of Kosovo, will be a pretext for the Yugoslav communist authorities to take violent measures, for supposedly extinguishing the “hostile action”, namely the “counter-revolution” in Kosovo, instigated and led by the “nationalist forces and Albanian irredentists”. In order to see more closely what approach the political leadership of Yugoslavia, namely the Communist League of the Provincial Committee of Kosovo had towards the Albanians in general, and Kosovo in particular, we found it reasonable to publish the document, namely the Information on the ideopolitical activity of the Communist League of Kosovo during September 1983. The document describes the normal and successful start of the new school year in all primary, secondary, higher education schools and faculties, the concretization and implementation of tasks from the long-term economic stabilization program, the stabilization of the political and security situation, the prevention of migrations of Serbs and Montenegrins, prevention of hostile activity and identification of actors, ideological and political rise and Marxist education of LK members, as well as other following issues were in the center of attention and organization of members, organizations and bodies of the Communist League of Kosovo also during the month of September. The 10-page document is located in the State Archives of the Republic of Slovenia. Since it has not been published so far, we thought it reasonable to present it in full.
