Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to comprehend the functional features of epigraphs as indicators of historical time in the Russian-language novel by Panteleimon Kulish Black Council. Chronicle of 1663. The study defines the role of epigraphs − important structural artistic components, the main feature of which is that they concentrate the content of each of the chapters of the novel, establish a relationship with the text of the work, reflect the author’s view of the events of the period of the Ruin in Ukrainian history.
