Summary/Abstract: The story (biography) of Jacob Frank and the history of frankism, described in Olga Tokarczuk’s Księgi Jakubowe, are a pretext for the author to put a question about the role of an author as a creator of the reality (also historical one). In the article, the author compares the life story of Frank (presented in the novel) with historical sources in order to show discrepancies between them, and refers to the works of Jan Doktór, Paweł Maciejko and Zygmunt Lucjan Sulima. What is more, a possible interpretation of these discrepancies has been presented. Finally, the author has shown that the novel represents (through these discrepancies) liberal-leftist ideas.
