Summary/Abstract: The content of the presented article attempts to systematise and char-acterise the anniversary of the newly established institution dealing with protection, defense and protection of persons, places and facilities of critical importance, relevantto the state’s management system and having a direct impact on the decision-makingprocess of the Polish security system. The problem of the operational scope of the insti-tution in question is not an easy one. The scope of competences and powers which theinstitution received under the Act of 08.12.2017 on the State Security Service is thereason why the analysis of legal provisions and their assessment in the context of thepermanent public concern regarding the violation of citizens’ civil liberties is quite com-licated. The attempt to analyse and evaluate the institution is an intellectual challengeas well as a long-term thought process which involves becoming acquainted with otherexecutive acts of the institution performing similar tasks in different areas in orderto become more familiar with issues being not only rather untypical but also particu-larly sensitive to criticism. Therefore, in the scope of the current article, the authorswill strive to discuss the activities of the institution under discussion in terms of legis-lative and executive aspects, pointing out possible disfunctional areas of its operation
