Summary/Abstract: Fiscal consolidation has weighed on GDP growth and its impact will last at least until the next year. Despite severe austerity, it will be difficult to cut the deficit of the general government to below 3 percent of GDP – a level required by the EU – by the next year. The long term consolidation plan, which assumes cutting the deficit down to 1 percent of GDP in 2015, may face serious obstacles.
