The First Generation of Professors at the Faculty of Law of the Royal Academy of Sciences in Zagreb

Summary/Abstract: Legal education at the University of Vienna, careers as professors at higher educational institutions in the Kingdom of Hungary, and the production of works related to Hungarian legal science defined the first generation of professors at the Royal Academy of Sciences in Zagreb (1776-1850). Assuming that these professors were carriers of legal knowledge through their activities, this paper examines the intensity of intellectual transfers among the academic elite of Hungarian legal scholars within the context of the Habsburg Monarchy, with a particular focus on the Faculty of Law in Zagreb. The research presented in this paper aims to enhance our understanding of the period of modernization of Hungarian legal culture by analysing the reception and exchange of legal knowledge.
