Two Models of Thought: Gnosticism and Neoplatonism

Summary/Abstract: My aim in this paper is to identify some of the essential features of Neoplatonism in comparison with Gnosticism with which it is often confused, despite the firm rejection of Gnosticism by its own father, Plotinus. These confusions allow thinkers such as Martin Heidegger or Emil Cioran to be placed under the sign of Gnosticism although, as we will show in the analysis below, they belong to a Neoplatonic thought paradigm.
