Summary/Abstract: The corona virus pandemic re-evaluated and reinterpreted traditional visual, textual and audio genres. We were living in the heyday of viral content (images, poems, jokes, songs, words etc.) about the virus, to which the study refers to as metaviruses. Memes about the pandemic are prototypical metaviruses as well. In this paper the corona memes are analyzed using the established terminology applied in the semiotic description of internet memes. The significant role of corona memes in our society lied in the fact that they were not only amusing, but they also relieved anxiety and function as a warning. Another of their important positive traits were that they attracted people who otherwise dislike the genre. They differ from general internet memes, because they are not organized only around one particular (easily identified) scene, but rather many (elusive) scenes.
