THE PROBLEM OF MIGRANT LITERATURE AND MACEDONIAN EXOPHONE WRITERS FROM THE END OF THE XIX AND THE BEGINNING OF THE XX CENTURY

Summary/Abstract: Perceiving the socio-cultural contexts and historical stages in Macedonian literature and culture, we cannot ignore the emergence of migrant literature, which determined the need for writing in a non-native language. The purpose of this paper is to present exophony as a product of migrant literature in Macedonian context. In order to shed light the struggling faced by Macedonian writers at the transition from the 19th to the 20th century, during the process of forming a national literature outside their own homeland, in this paper we perceive the phenomenon of migrant literature and exophony. We adopt the term exophony as an appropriate description of the phenomenon of writing in a non-native language by certain Macedonian authors in that period of time.
