Summary/Abstract: Ruth Ozeki’s latest novel The Book of Form and Emptiness, winner of the prestigious Women’s Prize for Fiction (https://womensprizeforfiction.co.uk/) for 2022, although written in a simple language, is a rich in content, concentrated text that covers a wide range of topics: from the various forms of coping with the loss of a loved one, the normalization of mental illnesses, forms of friendship, solidarity and love, to Zen Buddhism, capitalism, Marxism, jazz, the Fluxus movement, Borges, books and libraries. In this essay we offer one possible reading of Ozeki’s novel through the prism of the Affect Theory and point out the affective potentials in the acts of reception of a literary/art work.
