Summary/Abstract: The history of crime is a relatively recent field of research in ancient history, with its own specificities due to gaps in documentation. The aim here, therefore, is not to paint a hypothetical picture of crime and its repression in any period of Roman antiquity, but rather to outline a few current trends in research, notably through the exploitation of hitherto under-exploited sources (from archaeological to epigraphic sources - notably curse tablets and graffiti and papyri). It's also an interdisciplinary approach that focuses on the perceptions of the Romans themselves.
