Summary/Abstract: The term „responsibility“, although of Latin root, appears for the first time referring to the responsibility of civil servants in England, in the course of the parliamentary political debate of the 18th century („responsibility”) adopting the meaning of “to be held accountable“ or to be ”morally imputable“; however, in Roman sources the term „respondere“ and other forms derived from it are used to refer to the responsibility of officials. Likewise, the article deals with two other words: „obnoxious“ and „periculum“ referring to public officials and employees with the meaning of „being responsible“.
