The purpose of this article is to help you understand the need for identifying specific services and scanning activities as a start point of penetration test, and help you learn how to best perform these activities with specific tools like nmap or p0f. The main target is to describe specific tools that help reveal the characteristics of your targets, services, versions, and types of resources they offer.
