Summary/Abstract: The Submerged Cities is one of the first Romanian novels to focus on a post-apocalyptic future created by the sun’s freezing. It deals with many of our pressing concerns and firmly held convictions concerning colonialism, patriarchy, ecological disaster, the magical power of science to solve all of the problems and contradictions of reality etc. Written in a different time and without necessarily adhering to the standards of contemporary political correctness, Aderca's novel presents alternative perspectives on these issues, offering the potential to revise some of our own notions of the future.
