BACKGROUND SKETCHES ON ROMANIAN RESEARCH – AN X-RAY OF THE SITUATION FOR THE PERIOD 2007-2022

Summary/Abstract: The dynamics of international developments clearly show that, in addition to the judicious exploitation of natural resources, the awareness of the potential of human resources, the ability to accumulate knowledge and the ability to transform them into innovative products, represent other determining factors in building a worthy economic future for current and future generations. Therefore, research and innovation are considered engines of economic development and supporters of national and regional competitiveness in the European Union. Therefore, the article tries to discern the role of the state in supporting this field in Romania, what must be done at the level of public policies, starting from the comparative analysis with other states of the European Union of some descriptive indicators for the state of research for the period 2007 -2021/2022. The results highlight the problem of underfunding, undercapitalization, lack of strategy and vision, lack of investment in research infrastructure, but also smart ways of integrating research results in the private environment.
