Summary/Abstract: Reinforced concrete was introduced in Romania at the end of the 19th century and the first constructions with a reinforced concrete structure were designed and executed between 1884-1889. The promoter of the introduction of reinforced concrete in constructions from Romania was engineer Anghel Saligny (1854-1925), major personality in the Romanian history of civil engineering. The grain silos built in Braila and Galati, designed by him, have a unitary structure with dimensions of 30.00 x 120.00 m and a height of 18.15 m. These constructions are of great importance for the history of technology due to the technical innovations introduced: the use of reinforced concrete in the construction of silos and precast technology for reinforced concrete constructions (for the first time in the world), the use of reinforced concrete as a new construction material (for the first time in Romania), the storage system adopted is a new one, with vertical cells (introduced in Europe after 1881). Presently, these constructions are technically and historically representative and are classified as historical monuments of architecture in Romania.
