Summary/Abstract: The efficiency of the implementation of the five-year economic development plans depended on the pre-existing economic, social, cultural and political context in the space where this socialist project took place, with different results. Although they came with significant costs in terms of individual freedom, economic efficiency and innovation. The implementation of the common five-year plans shows that these economic approaches had both positive and negative effects, was not always effective and was accompanied by many challenges, from technological difficulties, inadequate planning, to corruption and bureaucratic rigidity. Political and economic changes in the 1980s contributed to the weakening of the five-year planning model.
