Pastoral Care of People in an Irregular Union in the Light of the Directives Contained in Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation Amoris laetitia

Summary/Abstract: In the presented contributive elaboration, the author considered the problem of pastoral care of people in an irregular union in the light of the directives contained in Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation Amoris laetitia. Based on the analysis of the papal document and the canonists’ comments to its guidelines, author showed that the problem of the faithful living in irregular unions is not only a pastoral challenge, but also a legal one. In his opinion, the problem of pastoral care raised in the article remains an open question. In his opinion, the individual directives presented in the study, should not be viewed separately, but integrally. Shaping consciences, teaching the full truth about marriage, integrating with the Church community, or finally very pragmatic conclusions regarding the use of rights and their limitation may complement each other; they should be applied not selectively, but adequately to the existing conditions.
