Summary/Abstract: The Arctic is an area rich in natural resources such as natural gas and oil. Strategically, the melting glaciers are opening up new shipping lanes, which is important, especially for freight transport. This road can become an alternative to traditional routes and significantly improve the pace of raw materials delivery. The aim of the article is to present China’s political aspirations toward the Arctic. The analysis particularly emphasizes China’s relations with the Russian Federation, which have an impact on their strategies towards the Arctic areas. Russia sees an opportunity in relations with China in the economic domain and also military one, which could reduce the role of the United States. On the other hand, Moscow is sceptical with respect to the Chinese Polar Silk Road concept that would violate Russia’s strong position in the Arctic.
