Summary/Abstract: The article deals with language nationalization, which is understood as the process of introducing the changes in the standard / literary language. These changes have been justified and explained by the need for the standard language to be as "national" as possible. The paper reveals who can initiate the nationalization of a language along with the types of changes in standard / literary language existing in practice. When it comes to the scope of the alternations undertaken in this process, the author explains that they can be total, significant, or limited, giving examples for each one. Whether the changes to the standard language will be accepted or not depends on whether they are democratic or totalitarian social systems. The author, also, briefly refers to the nationalization of the language and the introduction of changes in the norm of the Montenegrin language.
