Summary/Abstract: A relatively large number of Catholic priests originating in the Suceava decanate, the Iași bishopric, suffered during the Stalinist and post-Stalinist period the persecution of political repression. Even though most survived the hard years of detention and hard work and benefited from amnesties, they did not benefit from freedom. After being released from prisons, they were observed and followed by security authorities and constantly subjected to shivers and pressures. That is why some preferred the way of exile. Three such cases will be presented in this article – examples of political processes staged by communist repression bodies, examples of terror in prisons, aspects of life in the years after amnesty, going into exile and life abroad. It is an attempt to reconstruct the biography of the Bukovinian priests Matei (Matei) Požar, Ioan Baltheiser (in some documents, Iancu) and his brother Eugen Baltheiser.
