Manuscrıpt Copies and Addenda of Peçevi History

Summary/Abstract: The full manuscript copies of Peçuylu Ibrahim Efendi’s chronicle, which is famous with the name Peçevi History, cover the events that took place from the enthronement of Suleiman I until Murad IV’s death (926-1049/1520-1640). Within the scope of this study, eighty-three manuscript copies of Peçevi History from the domestic and foreign libraries are determined, and forty-eight of them, of which digital copies are obtained, are examined in detail in terms of their textual properties and the information they cover. Apart from these copies, the features of the remaining copies -except five of them- are obtained from the printed or online catalogs of the libraries in which they are located. All these data are compiled, and manuscript copies of Peçevi History are classified in terms of their completeness and if they have an addendum at the end. In addition, while thoroughly examining forty-eight manuscript copies of Peçevi History at hand, Peçuylu İbrahim Efendi’s death date, which just an estimation until today, is precisely determined thanks to the information recorded in three of the copies.
