Summary/Abstract: The vast majority of the countries in the enire world have on their territory minority groups that are distinguished from the majoritarian population through diverse aspects: ethnicity, culture, traditions, spoken language. A good indicator of the level of democracy is represented by the way how majoritarian populations treat the minorities in their countries. A special situation is represented by the countries with indigenous people. These are the populations that inhabited a territory before its colonialization. The indigenous minorities are different from the rest of minorities, they were not formed after migrations, they are not nomades, they are not colonizers. On the contrary, they have lived on a certain territory before colonialization and they tried to maintain their status. The goal of this paper is to describe and to analyse the situation in Australia, the relationships between the majoritarian population and the indigenous. The processes and aspects revealed took into account the dynamics of the last period. We stressed on many aspects such historical evolution of the situation, the initial status of indigenous populaton, structure of indigenous communities, the relationships at social and political level, humanrights achievement, relationshipa with the majoritarian population. The reconciliation process seems irreversible in Australia, the steps taken so far are on the right track. Although, there are few challenges and porcesses both the majoritarian and indigenous populations gave to face in the future.
